Irbid, Sept. 29 (Petra) -- The Reading Marathon kicked off in Irbid Governorate on Tuesday, organized by the Irbid Directorate of Culture to promote a reading culture and encourage community members, particularly children, to read, explore, and benefit from cultural and knowledge publications.

The marathon saw the distribution of about 2,000 books and magazines from Ministry of Culture publications at the Irbid Cultural Center and the Al-Hussein Bin Talal Library, including titles for adults and children as well as a range of cultural magazines, allowing attendees to choose books suited to their interests and ages.

The events also included a cultural competition for children attending, with incentive prizes distributed in cooperation with the "Aqhuwan Malka" Association, aiming to motivate children to read and make it an interactive experience combining knowledge, enjoyment, and positive competition.

Irbid Director of Culture Sultan Al-Zghoul said the launch of the Reading Marathon comes within the directorate’s efforts to promote a reading culture and make books accessible to all segments of society, stressing that reaching children and youth with books is a fundamental pillar of the cultural programs the directorate implements.

He added that distributing 2,000 books and magazines from Ministry of Culture publications represents an opportunity to strengthen the presence of books in society and make cultural and knowledge publications available to readers, noting the importance of partnership with cultural institutions and associations in implementing activities that contribute to spreading knowledge and encouraging reading among all.

He pointed out that organizing the cultural competition for children and offering prizes aims to motivate them to read from a young age and discover their talents and knowledge and cultural capabilities, affirming that the Irbid Directorate of Culture will continue implementing programs and activities targeting various age groups and enhancing the role of cultural centers and libraries as spaces for knowledge, learning, and community interaction.
