Amman, Sept. 14 (Petra) - Over a 49-day campaign, the Anti-Narcotics Department (AND) arrested 405 crystal meth dealers, an average of roughly nine arrests per day, according to Public Security Directorate (PSD) data.

Between August 3 and September 13, security forces waged a round-the-clock campaign to eradicate crystal methamphetamine across the Kingdom.

Authorities handled 776 crystal meth cases, including 244 trafficking cases and 532 possession or use cases, resulting in the arrest of 1,244 total suspects, the PSD told the Jordan News Agency (Petra).

Legal expert Sakher Khasawneh stated that Jordan's drug law provides full exemption from prosecution for users who voluntarily seek treatment before law enforcement detains them. Conversely, penal codes for trafficking carry severe penalties ranging from a minimum of 15 years in prison with steep fines to life imprisonment or capital punishment under aggravating circumstances, such as involving minors or repeat offenses.

Youth advocates and mental health professionals urged family oversight and early intervention. Sultan Khalaileh, head of the Sanad Youth Work, called on younger Jordanians to avoid dangerous substances and engage in constructive youth programs.

Developmental psychologist Rawda Ramahi said that families serve as the "first line of defense" and called on parents to monitor behavioral changes and report or seek help for struggling relatives without hesitation, citing complete confidentiality in state treatment protocols.

Families affected by addiction underscored the life-saving role of medical rehabilitation. The mother of Ghaith, a 23-year-old recovering from crystal meth addiction, shared with Petra her family's ordeal after discovering her son's symptoms, including severe insomnia, facial pallor, and unexplained absences.

After seeking help at an official addiction rehabilitation center, Ghaith spent a year in recovery, with his family now urging parents to stay vigilant.
