27/ House Speaker, Pakistani Envoy Discuss Ties

Amman, Sept. 14 (Petra) -- Lower House of Speaker Mazen Qadi welcomed Pakistani Ambassador to Jordan Khurram Sarfraz Khan at his office on Monday, where they discussed relations between the two countries, particularly parliamentary cooperation.

Qadi noted the deep Jordanian-Pakistani relations, stressed the need to build on His Majesty King Abdullah II's visit to Pakistan last year, which he described as a key milestone in cementing political and strategic ties, the Lower House said in a press release.

Qadi praised Pakistan's firm stance on the Palestinian cause and Jerusalem, including its support for the Hashemite Custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in the city.

He stressed continued bilateral coordination at international forums in the service of Arab and Islamic causes and efforts to bring about peace and stability in the region.

The Pakistani envoy affirmed the deep and strategic relations with Jordan, adding that his country aspires for closer parliamentary relations and broader communication channels between the two parliaments.

He also urged stronger economic ties, citing opportunities for the private sector and stressed the importance of reviving the joint business council and cooperation between the two countries' chambers of commerce and industry.
