Amman, Sept. 13 (Petra) -- The national basketball team’s place in the Nagoya 2026 Asian Games quarterfinals remains uncertain after an 81-68 defeat to Iran on Sunday left it third in Group B.

The national team concluded the group stage with four points from one victory and two defeats, finishing behind group winners Iran and second-placed Chinese Taipei. Qatar finished fourth.

Despite the loss, the national team remains in contention for a place in the knockout stage and will await the completion of matches in Groups A and C to determine whether it qualifies as one of the tournament’s two best third-placed teams.

The basketball competition features 12 teams divided into three groups. The top two sides in each group advance to the quarterfinals, along with the two best-performing third-placed teams.
