Amman, Sept. 13 (Petra) -- Goals were at a premium in the second round of the 2026/2027 CFI Professional League, with only five scored across five matches as three draws left five teams level on four points near the top of the standings.

Al-Jazeera finished the round in first place with four points, ahead of Al-Salt, Al-Faisaly, Al-Ramtha and Al-Baqa’a, who are level on points.

The round began with a 1-1 draw between Al-Jazeera and Shabab Al-Ordon. Yassin Al-Kaakouri broke the deadlock for Al-Jazeera in the 81st minute, but Saul Castro equalized for Shabab Al-Ordon five minutes into stoppage time.

Al-Hussein and Al-Baqa’a played out a goalless draw, while Al-Faisaly secured a 2-0 victory over Doqra. Majdi Al-Attar scored in the 23rd minute before Ahmad Ersan added the second in the 31st.

Al-Ramtha also collected three points with a 1-0 victory over Al-Arabi, courtesy of Al-Fosiny Gassama’s 74th-minute goal.

Al-Salt and Al-Wehdat brought the round to a close with a goalless draw.

The results left Al-Jazeera, Al-Salt, Al-Faisaly, Al-Ramtha and Al-Baqa’a on four points each. Shabab Al-Ordon and Al-Wehdat follow with two points apiece, Al-Hussein has one, while Al-Arabi and Doqra are yet to register a point.

The low scoring rate drew attention after the round produced an average of just one goal per match.

Former player Raed Rababaa attributed the lack of goals to an overly cautious approach in the opening stages of the season, saying clubs were prioritizing avoiding defeat and consequently adopting more defensive tactics.

Sports journalist Yahya Qteishat said similar caution was evident across most teams in the second round, with the fear of dropping early points limiting attacking play.

Football fan Ahmad Freihat said the trend was unlikely to persist as the season develops and teams gradually move away from their cautious early-round approach.
