Amman, Sept. 9 (Petra) - Lower House Administrative Committee Chairman Khalifa Deyyat called on Wednesday for basing local public sector hiring priorities on verified physical residency rather than civil registration records, citing better fairness and accuracy in community employment.

Lawmakers addressed hiring complaints, particularly in the Central Badia, where cross-regional family ties frequently complicate local job eligibility.

Voicing the government’s commitment to fairer hiring, Minister of State for Public Sector Development Badria Balbisi noted that regional public sector roles prioritize local residents first. She admitted, however, that official civil ID data does not always match where people actually live.

Service and Public Administration Commission Chair Fayez Nahar said technological solutions are being deployed to verify local eligibility, explaining that while ministry headquarters roles in Amman are open nationwide, regional branch vacancies prioritize local district residents.

To resolve residency verification issues, Civil Status and Passports Department Director General Ghaith Tayeb stated that the department is exploring digitalizing residency updates through the Sanad application, allowing citizens to submit proof of residence electronically.
