41/ OIC Condemns Nauru's Move to Open Embassy in Jerusalem

Amman, Sept. 9 (Petra) --Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) General Secretariat has condemned Nauru's decision to open an embassy in occupied Jerusalem, slamming the step as "inconsistent" with the international position on the city's legal and historical status.

In its satement on Wednesday, the OIC secretariat said Jerusalem forms an "integral" part of Palestinian territory occupied in 1967, adding that the move is null and illegal under international law and relevant UN resolutions, particularly UN Security Council resolutions 476 and 478 of 1980.

It renewed its call on Nauru's government and other countries that have relocated their embassies to occupied Jerusalem or announced similar intentions to reverse the illegal decision and contribute to international efforts toward peace based on the two-state solution, in line with relevant resolutions of international legitimacy.
