Amman, Sep. 9 (Petra) –Council of Education and Human Resources Development on Wednesday decided to raise the number of students to be admitted to medicine and dentistry programs at Jordanian universities for the 2026–2027 academic year.

The increase applies to admission quotas for both the regular and parallel programs at Jordan's public universities and numbers at private universities.

During the session chaired by Minister of Education and Human Resources Development, Dr. Azmi Mahafzeh, the council said this decision is part of its periodic reviews of university capacities across various disciplines, while ensuring compliance with specialized accreditation standards.

According to Mohannad Khatib, Director of the Unified Admission Coordination Unit, who spoke to "Petra," said the move aims to curb the number of Jordanian students enrolled in medical studies abroad.

Khatib noted that the move seeks to maintain the alumni quality by providing "greater" opportunities to study at Jordanian universities, which have earned an "outstanding reputation in this field."

The decision also aims to retain financial resources that students would otherwise spend on studying abroad.

Under this decision, the admission quota for the Medicine major within the regular program at public universities will increase to 840 students, up from 640, while the quota for Dentistry will rise to 400 students, up from 320.

The percentage of admitted students in the parallel program will also increase.

As for private universities, the number of students to be admitted in Medicine and Dentistry programs will rise by 20 students per major at each university.
