  27/ Yarmouk University, German Agency Discuss Sports Cooperation

Irbid, Sept. 9 (Petra) -- Yarmouk University (YU) President Malek Alsharairi, on Wednesday discussed with a delegation from the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) ways to strengthen cooperation and follow up on the implementation of a joint memorandum of understanding, particularly in training, academic and professional development areas, and "Sport for Development" approach.

Talking during the meeting, Alsharairi stressed the importance of the partnership with GIZ in strengthening alignment of academic knowledge with practical application, and developing skills of students and faculty and administrative staff.

He praised GIZ's support for the Faculty of Physical Education and Sport Sciences through equipment and sports supplies, which would advance training and applied education.

He pointed to the university's aspiration to expand cooperation, mainly in student qualification, field training and development of professional competencies.

He added that the YU also seeks to further enhance ties to boost opportunities for training and obtain accredited professional licenses and support youth engagement in the sports sector.

For her part, Lilly von Stackelberg GIZ’s Civil Peace Service (CPS) Program coordinator, praised the cooperation with the university, calling for using sport to reach young people, build their skills and strengthen communication, cooperation and social cohesion.

Faculty of Physical Education and Sport Sciences Dean Ahmed Bataineh reviewed the partnership's key achievements, which provided training opportunities for students, developed capabilities of faculty and administrative staff, and integrated "Sport for Development" concepts into the educational and training process.

He noted that the faculty has prepared a training manual, titled: "Sport for Development for Field Training Students for the 2026/2027 Academic Year," and is working to integrate an educational unit on social peace and social values into the "Teaching Methods" course.
