20/ National Basketball Team Faces Chinese Taipei in Asian Games Opener
Amman, Sept. 9 (Petra) -- The national basketball team will open its Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games campaign against Chinese Taipei on Thursday, seeking a strong start as it looks to build on the silver medal it won at the previous edition. The Group B clash will tip off at 7 a.m. Jordan time at Aichi Arena in Nagoya, Japan. The national team shares the group with Chinese Taipei, Qatar and Iran. A total of 12 teams are competing in the basketball tournament, divided into three groups. The national team arrived in Nagoya from Manila, Philippines, and has begun preparations under Spanish head coach Luis Gil Torres, holding its first training session at Aichi Arena, which will host the basketball competition. The team enters the tournament following a strong showing at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, where it claimed the silver medal. Under the competition schedule, the national team will face Qatar in its second group-stage match on Saturday, Sept. 12, before concluding the preliminary round against Iran on Sunday, Sept. 13. //Petra// RZ
