14/ JREEEF Holds Workshop on Energy Efficiency Programs in Vital Sectors
Aqaba, Sept. 8 (Petra) -- The Jordan Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Fund (JREEEF) held a workshop in Aqaba to introduce its programs targeting vital sectors. The workshop was attended by a representative of Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, Secretary-General of the Ministry Amani Al-Azzam, and representatives of relevant institutions and sectors. Al-Azzam stressed the importance of improving energy efficiency and promoting energy conservation across various sectors, noting that the National Energy Strategy aims to improve energy-use efficiency by 15 percent by 2035. She also highlighted the partnership with the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA), which has included several projects, including the replacement of lighting units in municipalities and the implementation of programs in mosques, hotels, and other facilities, contributing to improving energy efficiency in Aqaba. Rasmi Hamza, JREEEF Executive Director, stressed the importance of energy audits in identifying areas of energy waste and potential savings within facilities. He said diagnostic studies help facilities determine priority measures and begin with lower-cost solutions that can deliver quicker returns. Hamza also presented successful projects implemented by the Fund in the hotel sector in Aqaba and Petra, which contributed to improving energy efficiency and reducing operating costs. He stressed the importance of expanding such models to other economic and vital sectors. ASEZA Commissioner for Environmental Affairs Nidal Al-Aouran stressed the importance of continuing cooperation among institutions and expanding investment in energy-efficiency and renewable-energy projects. He called for strengthening the role of commercial banks in providing accessible financing for such projects. The workshop is part of efforts to introduce the Fund’s programs, build on successful experiences, and strengthen cooperation between the public and private sectors, contributing to economic savings and environmental sustainability across various sectors. //Petra//WH
