34/ Jordan to host major mixed martial arts event

Amman, September 6 (Petra) – Jordan is preparing to host "Jordan MMA Week," an international mixed martial arts event jointly organised by the Jordanian Mixed Martial Arts Federation, Jordan Combat Consulting and Makana 360 Consulting and Marketing Company.

The week-long event will bring together elite international and regional fighters and sports figures, media personalities, celebrities, content creators and other prominent guests.

It will feature professional fights, sports and media activities and experiences across several of Jordan’s major tourist and historical destinations.

Organisers said the event aims to become one of the largest and most ambitious combat sports events in Jordan, capitalising on the growing global popularity of mixed martial arts.

The programme will connect the sport with Jordan’s cultural and historical heritage, with activities planned in Amman, Jerash, the Dead Sea, Petra, Wadi Rum and Aqaba.

Events at archaeological and historical sites will be held in coordination with the relevant authorities and in accordance with measures to protect and preserve the sites.

Zaid Mirza, CEO of the Jordanian Martial Arts Consultancy, said the Roman Amphitheater in Amman will serve as more than a venue, becoming an integral part of the event’s visual identity.

"The place evokes the arenas and warriors of the ancient world and we are reviving this spirit today through a modern and exceptional experience in combat sports," Mirza said.

He added that the event will feature internationally renowned fighters and leading regional talent from countries including the United States, Brazil, Russia, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Iraq, the UAE and Palestine.

Mirza said the initiative goes beyond organising fights, aiming to create a new generation of combat sports experiences while showcasing Jordan’s historical and cultural identity to an international audience.

Jordan MMA Week is expected to receive extensive regional and international media coverage, including television broadcasts and participation by media outlets, content creators, celebrities and other prominent figures.

The event builds on the legacy of Desert Force, which played a pioneering role in introducing professional MMA to audiences across the Arab region, with organisers describing Jordan MMA Week as a new and more ambitious phase in that journey.

Organisers said the initiative seeks to establish an international sports and media platform based in Jordan, strengthening the Kingdom’s position as a regional destination for major martial arts events and attracting fighters, fans and international media.

Details of the main fight venue, participating fighters, media partners, personalities and the full programme will be announced at a later date.
