24/  Crystal Meth Crackdown Handles 112 Cases in 6th Week: PSD

Amman, Sept. 6 (Petra) -- Anti-Narcotics Department (AND) teams handled 112 crystal methamphetamine cases across the kingdom's provinces in the sixth week of an intensified crackdown against the drug, Public Security Directorate (PSD) said spokesperson announced Sunday.

Of the total figure, 43 cases involved trafficking and dealing operations, resulting in the arrest of 72 dealers, the spokesperson said.

The remaining 69 cases involved drug use, as 121 users were nabbed, as authorities seized varying quantities of crystal meth from those detained.

In a statement, the spokesperson said the crackdown will continue "firmly" until it achieves its goals of raising public awareness about the drug and pursuing those involved in its trade.

As for its adverse impact, the official said this narcotic substance causes death among users, or triggers serious crimes that threaten public safety.

He renewed calls on the public to fulfill their social and civil duty by tipping off any information about individuals, or drug-related activity through the emergency hotline 911, stressing that all reports will be handled with strict confidentiality.
