19/ Gaza Buries Nearly 100 Killed in Zeitoun

Amman Sept. 6 (Petra) -- Palestinians on Sunday buried the bodies of nearly 100 people, most of them children and women, at the Martyrs' Cemetery in the Zeitoun neighborhood southeast of Gaza City after their remains were pulled from the rubble of destroyed homes.

Palestinian sources said the dead, recovered from collapsed buildings in Zeitoun, belonged to the Malaka, Erheim, Balawi and Salmi families.

The funeral procession began outside the Imam al-Shafi'i Mosque in Zeitoun, drawing hundreds of residents and relatives of the dead.

Mourners paid their final respects to the bodies, wrapped in Palestinian flags, before family members delivered eulogies.

The procession then moved to the neighborhood's cemetery near the al-Ahli Arab Hospital, where the bodies were laid in mass graves.

Local emergency teams, working with the International Committee of the Red Cross, recovered the bodies using bulldozers, trucks and heavy lifting equipment to clear rubble from homes destroyed during Israel's war of genocide on Gaza, which began Oct. 7, 2023.
