Zarqa, Sept. 5 (Petra) -- Zarqa University has concluded the activities of the "A Hand That Teaches" initiative, implemented by the university's Deanship of Student Affairs in cooperation with the Faculty of Educational Sciences and the Faculty of Science over two months.

The initiative aimed to teach orphaned children affiliated with the Omar bin Al-Khattab Charitable Association reading and writing skills and enhance their educational and cognitive abilities, reflecting the university's community and development role in serving various segments of society.

The closing ceremony was patronized by Zarqa University Vice President for Academic Affairs Alaeddin Sadeq, in the presence of Mohammad Samara, president of the Omar bin Al-Khattab Charitable Association; Aliaa Burqan, dean of the Faculty of Science; and Mahmoud Muraweh, vice dean of the Faculty of Educational Sciences.

Mukhlid Al-Zoubi, dean of Student Affairs, said the "A Hand That Teaches" initiative reflected Zarqa University's approach of strengthening the values of social responsibility and directing scientific and humanitarian resources toward serving the community, particularly those most in need.

Investing in children's education and empowering them with knowledge is a fundamental pillar in building individuals and enhancing their future opportunities, he said.

Volunteer work and social solidarity are genuine drivers of community development, Al-Zoubi added, noting that university initiatives help build bridges of cooperation with local community institutions and allow students to apply their knowledge and translate the values of giving and belonging into initiatives with tangible and sustainable impact.

Samara expressed his appreciation to Zarqa University, its Deanship of Student Affairs, the participating faculties and the volunteers, commending their efforts in implementing the initiative and the positive impact it had on supporting the children and developing their abilities.

The initiative featured a series of educational and interactive lessons and activities focused on building the children's reading and writing skills, developing their linguistic and cognitive abilities, and enhancing their engagement in the learning process within a supportive and stimulating educational environment that addressed their needs and helped them discover their potential and develop their skills.

Separately, Zarqa University's Faculty of Nursing organized an educational and recreational activity for students enrolled in the Clinical Child Health Nursing course at the pediatric department of Zarqa Government Hospital, with the aim of enhancing their knowledge and clinical skills and linking theoretical learning with practical application.

The activity covered several health topics related to child care, most notably the importance of breastfeeding and its role in promoting children's health and development, monitoring growth and development and their various stages, fever in children and appropriate ways of dealing with it, as well as urinary tract infections, methods of prevention, and ways to reduce the risk of infection.

The activity, supervised by faculty member Maha Rababa and clinical training supervisor Bayan Khazaleh, also included recreational and interactive sessions that helped create a positive learning environment.
