Amman, Sept. 5 (Petra) -- A medical team from the Gamma Knife Unit at Jordan University Hospital has successfully treated three patients from Iraq, Syria, and Palestine using highly precise stereotactic radiation technology, without the need for open surgery, according to Abdulrahman Shdeifat, professor of brain tumor surgery and stereotactic radiotherapy and head of the hospital's Gamma Knife Unit.

In a statement to the Jordan News Agency (Petra), Shdeifat said the cases included an arteriovenous malformation of the cerebral blood vessels, treatment-resistant trigeminal neuralgia, and a skull-base tumor threatening the patients' visual and neurological functions.

Each patient underwent a carefully tailored treatment plan prepared by a specialized team of neurosurgeons, medical physicists, and nurses, he said.

Shdeifat said the Gamma Knife Unit is the only unit of its kind in Jordan and is distinguished by its ability to deliver a highly concentrated radiation dose with extreme precision to the affected area while fully preserving surrounding healthy tissue.

This approach ensures effective treatment outcomes, limited complications, and short recovery periods, allowing patients to leave the hospital within a few hours, he said.
