8/ Aqaba Container Terminal Handles Record 104,000 TEUs in August
Amman, Sept. 3 (Petra) -- The Aqaba Container Terminal (ACT) handled more than 104,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) across 58 vessels in August, setting a monthly record for the second consecutive month. The result surpassed the previous record of 101,900 TEUs set in July, marking the second consecutive month in which container throughput exceeded 100,000 TEUs despite regional trade disruptions. Transit cargo also remained strong for a third consecutive month, exceeding 20,000 TEUs in August, including more than 10,000 TEUs bound for Iraq. Imports reached 36,000 TEUs, while truck movements through the terminal’s gates exceeded 43,000, including more than 35,000 movements involving the delivery of imported goods. The ACT attributed the performance to coordination with the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority and the Ministry of Transport, as well as cooperation with other partners, which it said helped reduce yard occupancy and maintain the flow of vessels and trucks. ACT Chief Executive Officer Jose Rueda said the August results reflected the efforts of terminal staff and the operational practices applied by APM Terminals. He also credited cooperation with the company’s partners for helping the terminal maintain operations amid challenging conditions. //Petra// AO
