39/ Labor, Water ministries cooperate to provide workforce needs for National Water Carrier Project
Amman, Sept. 3 (Petra) –Ministries of Labor and Water and Irrigation on Thursday discussed ways to employ Jordanian workers in National Water Carrier Project. During the meeting, held at the Ministry of Labor headquarters, Minister of Transport and Labor, Dr. Nidal Qatamin, said the project is one of the "largest" infrastructure enterpsrises in the Kingdom's history and a "key" part of the Economic Modernization Vision. He added that the project reflects the government's approach to providing job opportunities for Jordanians. According to a statement released by the Ministry of Labor, Qatamin noted that the Ministry, the Vocational Training Corporation, and other affiliated instituations are "fully" prepared to cooperate with the Ministry of Water and Irrigation and the project management. Qatamin said this future effort aims to identify needs of various professions and provide the necessary training for Jordanian youth to obtain the required experience to work on major projects, both within Jordan and abroad. He added that the ministry is "committed" to integrating government efforts in implementing national projects, calling for training young people in the professions required to implement the project, which will provide future job opportunities for this group in other projects. Meanwhile, Ministry of Water Secretary General Jehad Mahamid said the project's success requires the "concerted" efforts of state institutions, an effective partnership with the private sector, and the support of international partners. He noted that the Ministry of Water has several future projects that will require qualified and trained Jordanian manpower. In turn, the project's director Saddam Khelifat said the project management is "keen" to coordinate with the Ministry of Labor and the Vocational Training Corporation to train Jordanian youth in the professions required for the implementation phases. Khelifat announced the management has already begun identifying the necessary professions for this purpose.
