Irbid, Sept. 3 (Petra) -- The new Sama Abu Al-Toyour, a village located in the Irbid Governorate of northern Jordan, Mixed Basic School opened its doors with the start of the new academic year, welcoming about 650 students from the town of Sama in a move aimed at easing overcrowding in Taybeh District schools and providing a modern, integrated learning environment.

The school was established under the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development's plan to expand modern school infrastructure and provide facilities that meet educational needs while ensuring equal opportunities for students.

The new building was completed under education projects funded by the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD), at a total cost of 1.837 million dinars, on a built-up area of about 2,981 square meters.

Ziad Jarrah, director of education for the Taybeh and Wasatiyah districts, told the Jordan News Agency (Petra) the school was established to meet educational needs in the densely populated Abu Al-Toyour neighborhood of Sama, providing students with a modern environment equipped with the necessary facilities and supporting teachers' work.

The building includes 21 classrooms alongside integrated educational and administrative facilities, including a science lab, a computer lab, vocational workshops, a library, a theater, and dedicated rooms for administrative and teaching staff, Jarrah pointed out.

He said the school's design accounts for the needs of students with disabilities, with an elevator and accessible walkways, along with air conditioning, heating and water filtration systems to ensure comfort and safety inside the building.

The project also includes a separate kindergarten building with two classrooms, a kitchen, private restrooms for each classroom, a playground, and a separate entrance to preserve young children's privacy, in addition to a main building entrance connected to the school's courtyards and facilities.

Jarrah explained that the school has two courtyards, one for vehicle parking and another for student assembly and activities, as well as a five-a-side field for sports and recreational activities.

The school currently serves about 650 students from kindergarten through eighth grade, with 28 female teachers and administrators overseeing instruction, Jarrah noted.

He stressed that the project reflects the ministry's vision of developing school infrastructure, reducing overcrowding and reliance on rented buildings, and providing advanced facilities that meet modern education requirements, noting that a suitable school environment is key to supporting the educational process and improving outcomes.

Jarrah added that work is underway on Deir Al-Saaneh Basic School in Taybeh District, which is 95 percent complete and expected to open this year as part of royal initiatives to improve the educational environment in the area. He also pointed to the completion of a four-classroom addition at Mkhareba Secondary Mixed School to help reduce overcrowding.

He said the expansion of modern, fully equipped schools reflects the ministry's commitment to improving the quality of the learning environment and supporting students in developing their skills and access to quality education.
