Amman, Sep. 3 (Petra) – Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources and Chairman of Jordan Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Fund (JREEEF), Dr. Saleh Kharabsheh, and President of the Jordan Engineers Association (JEA), Abdullah Ghosheh, on Thursday signed the second phase of the agreement for "Fazeet Ahl" initiative, a program designed to support low-income families nationwide.

This initiative aims to support the installation of solar water heating systems in the homes of families benefiting from home renovation and rehabilitation projects for low-income households.

During the signing ceremony, Kharabsheh said the second phase of the agreement will see installation of approximately 300 solar water heaters in 300 homes, at a total cost of JD150,000.

Kharabsheh added that this process will be implemented under joint cooperation, as part of their social responsibility and service to support beneficiary families.

He noted that the initiative represents a "practical model" for directing support to deserving perople, noting that its impact extends beyond the social aspect, aimed to serve national goals of expanding the use of renewable energy systems and contributing to reducing cost of energy and electricity bills for citizens.

He also urged partnerships with national institutions and professional associations in implementing initiatives that combine developmental and social dimensions, and provide sustainable solutions that contribute to improving the living conditions of beneficiary families.

For his part, Ghosheh said the agreement combines 3 cherished values: Clean energy, social responsibility, and engineering expertise.

He remarked the step is "more than just a cooperation agreement between two institutions, as it places energy at the heart of social responsibility and puts this concept at the service of humanity."

Through this agreement, he noted that the association is cooperating with the JREEEF to support installation of solar water heating systems in homes currently renovated as part of the initiative.

Launched by the association years ago, he said the program has served hundreds of homes and underprivileged families across the Kingdom.

In turn, JREEEF Executive Director, Rasmi Hamzeh, affirmed the fund's continued cooperation with the association, as a center of expertise in engineering fields.

He indicated that the agreement comes within the framework of the fund's commitment to strengthening partnerships with national institutions and community initiatives and expanding scope of benefiting from renewable energy solutions.

He explained that the initiative contributes to easing burden of energy costs on beneficiary families, improving energy efficiency, promoting reliance on solar energy as a "sustainable" source, and achieving positive long-term economic and environmental impacts.

The initiative's first phase saw the support and installation of 311 solar water heaters for beneficiary homes, at a total cost of approximately JD140,000.

As for their feasibility, the installed systems are expected to contribute to savings on energy bills estimated at around JD780,000 and will cut carbon emissions of approximately 431 tons per year.

The number of beneficiaries in the first phase reached approximately 1,560 individuals from various age groups, reflecting the direct impact of the initiative in improving the living conditions of beneficiary families and providing sustainable solutions to meet their energy needs, which would combine social support with the transition to clean energy.
