40/ Jordanian Professional League Kicks Off Thursday With 10 Clubs
Amman, Sept. 2 (Petra) -- The 2026/27 Jordanian Professional Football League kicks off Thursday with 10 clubs competing for the title in the 74th edition of the national championship. The opening round begins Thursday with Al-Baqa’a facing Al-Duqra at 7 p.m. at Petra Stadium. Friday’s fixtures see Shabab al-Ordon take on al-Ramtha at 6 p.m. at King Abdullah II Stadium, followed by the derby between al-Wehdat and al-Faisaly at 8:30 p.m. at Amman International Stadium. The first round concludes Saturday with al-Arabi playing al-Salt at 6 p.m. at Petra Stadium, while al-Hussein meets al-Jazeera at 8:30 p.m. at the King Abdullah II Stadium. The league will be contested over three stages in a round-robin format, with the team accumulating the most points crowned champion. The bottom two teams will be relegated to the First Division. The Jordan Football Association’s YouTube channel will broadcast the matches live, while tickets for the opening round are available through the association’s online ticketing platform. Meanwhile, the Jordan Football Association celebrated Jordanian referees who participated in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, recognizing their historic achievement at the global tournament. The association also accredited its first batch of Video Assistant Referee (VAR) officials, comprising 24 male and female referees, after they completed the required training and evaluation phases and met FIFA’s technical requirements. The association’s Secretary General Samar Nassar expressed pride in the refereeing team’s World Cup achievement, praising the level of performance demonstrated during the tournament. "We are proud of the achievement of our referees at the World Cup, which confirms the ability of Jordanian talent to participate and compete at the highest levels," she said.
