37/ Olive oil production estimate at 30,000 Tons, prices JD90–110
Amman, October 14 (Petra) – The General Syndicate of Olive Press Owners and Olive Producers in Jordan announced on Wednesday that the 2026/2027 olive pressing season will start tomorrow across the Kingdom, and the official season-opening ceremony will be held next Wednesday in Irbid Governorate, led by the Agriculture Minister. The announcement was made at a press conference attended by the syndicate's head Mohammad Najdawi, administrative board members, and representatives of the media. The Syndicate outlined preparations for the new season, regulatory and awareness-raising plans, as well as its vision for developing the sector and overcoming obstacles facing farmers and producers. Najdawi said preliminary estimates indicate olive oil production this season will be about 30,000 tons. Presses have made a significant technological leap over the past two decades, placing them top of global facilities, he said, adding that 99 percent of local presses utilize modern, advanced technologies. He said the production capacity significantly exceeds local output, resulting in market saturation and comprehensive coverage across the Kingdom. Najdawi assured that olive oil will be sufficient to fully meet local demand, adding that prices will be fair and affordable, with the cost of a standard 16-kilogram tin of pure oil, the officially adopted unit of measurement, ranging between JD90 and 110, levels comparable to last year's prices. //Petra//SS
