23/ Communication minister calls for stronger Arab media cooperation

Amman, October 10 (Petra) – Minister of Government Communication Mohammad Momani on Saturday called for strengthening Arab media cooperation, exchanging expertise and coordinating efforts to address challenges posed by digital transformation, social media and AI.

During bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the Future of Media and Communication Forum, Momani met with Palestinian Minister Supervising Official Media Ahmad Assaf, Lebanese Information Minister Paul Morcos, Head of Egypt's National Media Authority Ahmed Moslamani, Syrian Information Minister Khaled Zaarour and President of the Federation of Arab Journalists Moayad Lami.

Discussions focused on developing media institutions, modernising infrastructure, improving journalists' skills, updating media legislation, combating misinformation and hate speech and strengthening professional journalism.

In his meeting with Assaf, Momani reaffirmed Jordan's support, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, for the Palestinian cause and the Palestinian people's legitimate right to an independent state, while rejecting displacement and the alternative homeland concept.

Both sides called for coordinating media efforts to highlight the Palestinian cause internationally.

Talks with Morcos addressed cooperation in media regulation, digital content and combating disinformation. Discussions with Moslamani focused on modernising state media, digitising radio and television archives and preserving media heritage.

During his meeting with Zaarour, Momani said that Jordan is committed to supporting Syria's efforts to rebuild its institutions and achieve security, stability and development.

Both sides highlighted cooperation in media development, training and capacity building.

In talks with Lami, the two sides urged supporting professional journalism, developing journalists' skills and expanding training and expertise-sharing programmes to keep pace with technological advances.

Momani said that the Kingdom is committed to strengthening partnerships with Arab countries and media institutions to advance the sector and enhance Arab media’s ability to address shared challenges and interests.
