38/ Aqaba Digital Hub, MEDUSA sign submarine cable agreement

Aqaba, Oct. 1 (Petra) -- Nitel, the telecommunications arm of Aqaba Digital Hub (ADH), signed a strategic agreement with MEDUSA Submarine Cables to land the MEDUSA submarine cable at the city's cable landing station.

In a statement Thursday, the company said the agreement opens a "new" international connectivity route between Jordan and Europe via Aqaba.

The company added that this step strengthens Jordan's role as a digital gateway linking Europe, North Africa and the Middle East.

Under the deal, Aqaba Digital Hub will provide a new access point to the MEDUSA network through the Coral Bridge submarine cable. This step links Aqaba with Europe through MEDUSA's landing stations in the Mediterranean and improves connectivity with Middle East and North Africa markets.

The cooperation also includes hosting MEDUSA equipment at the city data center. The company said the deal gives telecom operators, cloud service providers and institutions in Jordan and the region more options for connecting to international networks through MEDUSA's high-capacity network.

The company said multiple routes improve the reliability of digital services and support the infrastructure needed for the Kingdom's digital economy growth.

MEDUSA is developing a new-generation submarine cable system linking Europe, North Africa and the Middle East. The system will integrate with Nitel's regional and international network, the data center and the cable landing station.

Talking at the signing ceremony, Eyad Abu Khormaş ,şFounder and CEO at Aqaba Digital Hub said the cooperation helps develop Aqaba's international connectivity infrastructure. He said the Coral Bridge cable, which links Aqaba with Taba in Egypt, brings the MEDUSA cable to Aqaba and widens options for institutions and service providers.

MEDUSA Submarine Cables CEO Norman Albi said the cooperation is an important step in extending the MEDUSA network from the Mediterranean to Jordan and the Middle East.

MEDUSA is developed and operated by AFR-IX Telecom. It comprises more than 8,700 kilometers of submarine cable and 24 fiber pairs.

Aqaba Digital Hub hosts Jordan's largest data center, which is equipped for artificial intelligence applications.

Through Nitel, a licensed telecom operator in Jordan, the city provides cloud computing, cable landing facilities, fiber optic services, internet exchange via AqabaIX and regional connectivity solutions.
