22/ Ishaish Faces World Champion in Bid for Jordan’s First Asian Games Boxing Gold
Amman, Oct. 1 (Petra) -- Boxer Zeyad Ishaish will take on Kazakhstan's world champion Torekhan Sabyrkhan in the under-70kg final at the Nagoya 2026 Asian Games on Friday, bidding to deliver Jordan its first boxing gold medal in the history of the continental event. The gold-medal bout is scheduled for 8 a.m. Jordan time and will pit Ishaish against a familiar opponent, whom he defeated in April. Ishaish booked his place in the final with three consecutive victories. He opened his campaign by defeating Palestine's Mohammad Issa in the round of 16 before overcoming Tajikistan's Shamsher Saidov in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, the Jordanian defeated Japan's Sewon Okazawa, the defending Asian Games champion, to secure his shot at gold. Sabyrkhan followed a similarly strong route to the final, defeating Qatar's Mohammad Beichi in the round of 16 and Iraq's Ali Qasim Hamdan in the quarterfinals before overcoming Uzbekistan's Shavkatjon Boltaev in the semifinals. For Ishaish, Friday's contest offers the opportunity to add gold to the bronze medal he won at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta and set a new milestone for Jordanian boxing. The rematch adds another dimension to the final, with Ishaish looking to repeat his April victory over the Kazakh world champion and turn an unbeaten run in Nagoya into a historic Asian Games title. //Petra// RZ
