11/ 4th Ibero-American Film Week to kick off Tuesday in Amman
Amman, May 30 (Petra) – The fourth Ibero-American Film Week will open on Tuesday, June 2, at the outdoor amphitheater of the Royal Film Commission (RFC) in Jabal Amman.
According to an RFC press statement issued Saturday, the six-day event is organized in cooperation with the embassies of Brazil, Spain, Mexico, Venezuela, Panama, and Chile in Jordan. Daily screenings will begin at 8:00 PM, with free admission and no prior registration required.
The festival opens on Tuesday with the Mexican crime-drama "Museum", directed by Alonso Ruizpalacios (2018). The film, based on actual events, is in Spanish with English subtitles (rated 21+). It received the Silver Bear for Best Screenplay at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2018.
On Wednesday, June 3, the RFC will screen the Panamanian comedy "Frozen in Russia", directed by Arturo Montenegro (2018), in Spanish with English subtitles (rated 18+).
The lineup continues on Thursday with the Chilean mockumentary "Designation of Origin", directed by Tomas Alejandro Alzamora Munoz (2024), in Spanish with Arabic and English subtitles (rated 16+). The film received seven awards on the festival circuit, including Best Feature Film at the 17th Chile Film Festival in 2025.
On Friday, June 5, the Spanish drama "The Olive Tree", directed by Iciar Bollain (2016), will be screened in Spanish with Arabic and English subtitles (rated 16+). The production received three awards, including Best New Actress at the Goya Awards in 2017.
Saturday's program features the Brazilian comedy "Basic Sanitation, the Movie", directed by Jorge Furtado (2007). The film is in Portuguese with Arabic and English subtitles (rated 16+) and received four awards, including the Audience Award for Best Actress at the 2008 Premio Contigo Cinema Festival.
The film week concludes on Sunday, June 7, with the Venezuelan documentary "Kueka: Ancestral Memory", directed by Maria de los Angeles Pena Fonseca (2025). Screened in Spanish with Arabic and English subtitles, the documentary received nine awards, including Best Documentary at the 2025 Vienna Summer Film Festival, with additional festival recognitions in Italy, Greece, and the United States.
