54/ GCC strongly condemns drone attack on UAE’s Barakah nuclear plant
Amman, May 17 (Petra) -- The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) has strongly condemned a brutal assault targeting the United Arab Emirates with three drones, one of which targeted the Barakah nuclear power plant in the Al Dhafra region. Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary-General of the GCC, stated on Sunday that these treacherous attacks against the Barakah nuclear facility represent a dangerous escalation and a direct threat to the security and stability of the region. Albudaiwi added that the strike constitutes a flagrant violation of all international laws and norms regarding the protection of vital and nuclear installations. He warned that such actions could lead to catastrophic repercussions impacting regional and international security, while threatening civilian safety, the environment, and global energy supplies. The Secretary-General emphasized the GCC member states' full and unwavering support for the United Arab Emirates in all measures it implements to safeguard its security, stability, and the safety of its citizens and residents. //Petra// AF
