7/ Culture Minister: Doha Book Fair Reinforces Jordanian-Qatari Cultural Partnership

Amman, May 14 (Petra) -- Participation in the 35th edition of the Doha International Book Fair reflects the strength of cultural ties between Jordan and Qatar and highlights expanding cooperation between the two countries in publishing and cultural exchange, Culture Minister Mustafa Rawashdeh said.

According to a statement issued Thursday by the Ministry of Culture, Rawashdeh made the remarks during the opening of the exhibition, which was inaugurated by Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.

The minister expressed appreciation for Qatar’s reception and cooperation and praised its role as a regional cultural hub.

He also highlighted the strong participation of Jordanian publishing houses in the exhibition, describing the publishing sector as one of Jordan’s leading cultural and creative industries.

Rawashdeh said the Ministry of Culture continues to support Jordanian publishers through initiatives led by the Directorate of Studies and Publishing and the Family Library project.

During a tour of the exhibition, the minister visited Jordanian publishing stands and reaffirmed support for Jordanian publishers and writers participating in international cultural events.

He said book fairs provide opportunities for cultural dialogue and knowledge exchange while strengthening communication between societies.

The 35th edition of the Doha International Book Fair, which runs through May 23 at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center, includes participation from 515 publishing houses representing 37 countries, including around 50 Jordanian publishers.

The exhibition also features a cultural program and dedicated sections for ministries and cultural institutions.

Held this year under the slogan "From Engraving to Writing," the fair is considered one of the oldest and largest book exhibitions in the region, having first launched in 1972 under the supervision of Qatar’s Dar Al Kutub before later being organized by the Qatari Ministry of Culture.
