6/ World Cup Qualification Drives New Era for Jordanian Football

Amman, May 14 (Petra) -- The national team’s historic qualification for the FIFA World Cup is reshaping Jordanian football on multiple levels, fueling higher player ambitions, stronger domestic competition and growing commercial and investment interest across the sport.

The achievement has extended beyond its sporting significance, creating visible changes in the outlook of Jordanian players toward professionalism and raising expectations for the future of the local football sector.

Players and sports specialists told Petra that the qualification campaign marked a turning point for Jordanian football after strengthening confidence in the ability of local players and clubs to compete at higher international levels.

Mahmoud Al-Mardi said the World Cup qualification significantly boosted players’ confidence and reinforced belief in their ability to compete against major international teams.

He added that Jordanian players now view professional opportunities abroad differently, with ambitions increasingly centered on reaching stronger clubs and leagues.

Al-Mardi also said the domestic league has experienced stronger competition and growing fan engagement, particularly during the final stages of the season.

Meanwhile, Saad Al-Rousan said the achievement raised players’ ambitions and increased belief in their ability to develop and compete at the highest levels.

He noted that Jordanian football has gained broader regional and international attention following the emergence of more Jordanian players in Arab, Asian and European leagues.

Issam Smayri said heightened competition in the domestic league contributed directly to improving player readiness and strengthening the national team.

He explained that competition for places in the national squad encouraged players to improve their performances, while also motivating some professional players abroad to return to the local league to remain under the national team coaching staff’s supervision.

For his part, player agent Shadi Drabseh said the World Cup qualification increased international scouting interest in Jordanian players and contributed to a noticeable rise in their market value.

At the club level, Habib Zaabalawi said Al-Hussein SC has begun witnessing increased interest from companies seeking sponsorship and partnership opportunities, particularly given the club’s large number of national team players.

He added that the visibility of Al-Hussein players within the national team strengthened the club’s image and commercial presence, while stressing that long-term sponsorship growth depends on stability, professionalism and sustained success.

On the commercial side, Zain Jordan, one of the sponsors of the national football team, said its support for Jordanian football comes through its strategic partnership with the Jordan Football Association, under which it serves as the exclusive telecommunications sponsor of the national team.

The company said the qualification achievement reinforces the importance of continued support for Jordanian sports and reflects the growing momentum surrounding football in the kingdom.

The success of the national team has also intensified attention on sports infrastructure development.

Earlier this year, the government announced the Amra Development City project, which includes the construction of the "Al Hussein bin Abdullah II International Stadium" with a capacity of 50,000 spectators, making it the largest football stadium in the kingdom.

Officials said the project forms part of broader efforts to strengthen Jordan’s position on the regional and international sports map.
