41/ Ministers Discuss Expanding Public Transport Links to Industrial Cities

Amman, May 14 (Petra)-- Ministers of Transport, Local Administration, and Industry, Trade and Supply discussed mechanisms to improve public transportation services to industrial cities and development zones in a move aimed at increasing Jordanian employment, facilitating workers’ access to jobs, and stimulating economic activity across the governorates.

During a meeting held at the Ministry of Transport, Transport Minister Nidal Qatamin, Local Administration Minister Walid Al-Masri, and Industry, Trade and Supply Minister Yarub Qudah stressed the importance of integrating industrial cities and development zones into upcoming inter-governorate transport connectivity projects, particularly the Hassan Industrial Estate.

The meeting was attended by Ministry Secretary-General Faris Abu Dayyah, Director General of the Land Transport Regulatory Commission Riyad Al-Kharabsheh, Acting Secretary-General of the Ministry of Public Works and Housing Wasim Al-Adwan, Director General of the Jordan Industrial Estates Company Adi Obeidat, along with a number of specialists and officials.

The ministers emphasized that providing reliable and safe transport services to industrial zones would benefit workers, students, and visitors, while also supporting economic and commercial activity in nearby cities by improving mobility during and after working hours as well as on holidays.

Discussions focused on the Hassan Industrial Estate as a pilot model for implementing the proposed transport solutions before expanding them to other industrial cities and development zones across the Kingdom.

Participants noted that the Hassan Industrial Estate hosts 134 factories employing more than 30,000 workers, including around 6,000 Jordanians, making transport development a priority to boost local employment and improve access to workplaces.

During the meeting, the Land Transport Regulatory Commission delivered a presentation on the current state of the transport sector in Irbid Governorate and proposals to provide more efficient and sustainable transport services to the Hassan Industrial Estate.

The ministers affirmed that transport services for industrial cities are a national priority aligned with the goals of Jordan’s Economic Modernization Vision, particularly in creating jobs, increasing the employment of Jordanians, and improving transportation services across the Kingdom’s governorates.
