38/ PSD Arrests Armed Suspect Tied to Regional Drug Trafficking Network

Amman, May 14 (Petra)-- The Public Security Directorate announced that a joint security operation carried out by the Anti-Narcotics Department, security agencies, and specialized raid teams resulted in the arrest of a dangerous armed suspect linked to regional drug-smuggling networks.

The operation followed weeks of surveillance, tracking, and intelligence gathering and led to the seizure of 350 kilograms of Captagon pills estimated at around 2.1 million narcotic tablets hidden inside a secret cache on a farm in the Ruwaished district.

The Public Security Directorate’s spokesperson said investigators had received intelligence indicating that the suspect, who was classified as armed and dangerous, was cooperating with regional smuggling gangs involved in transporting drugs across the border using balloons.

A specialized investigation team monitored the suspect’s movements and gathered evidence over several weeks before identifying the farm allegedly used to store narcotics and conduct criminal activities.

During the raid, the suspect attempted to flee through the rugged terrain of the area. Authorities said he used his juvenile son in an attempt to distract security forces, with the son trying to escape in a vehicle used by his father to facilitate his escape. Both were ultimately apprehended by security forces.

A search of the farm uncovered a concealed storage site containing the Captagon pills. Officers also seized firearms, smuggling equipment including balloons, and large sums of cash.
Investigations into the case are ongoing, according to the spokesperson.
