33/ Jordan condemns Israeli extremist minister's storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque
Amman, May 14 (Petra) –Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates condemned the storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque/Haram al-Sharif by the hardline Israeli National Security Minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir, coinciding with the so-called Flag March. The ministry also decried the provocative and unacceptable actions of extremist settlers, who raised Israeli flags in the mosque's courtyards under protection of the occupation police, and prevented worshipers from accessing Al-Aqsa Mosque. The ministry said this incursion is a blatant violation of international law, an unacceptable provocation, and a flagrant breach of the historical and legal status quo. The ministry noted Israel has no sovereignty over occupied Jerusalem and its Islamic and Christian holy sites. In a statement Thursday, the ministry's official spokesperson Fouad Majali, affirmed the Kingdom's "absolute" rejection and "strong" condemnation of the repeated incursions by ministers, officials, settlers, and extremists into the Al-Aqsa Mosque/Haram al-Sharif compound, their provocative actions, and the prevention of worshipers from accessing the mosque. Majali stated these actions constitute a "blatant" violation of international law and international humanitarian law, and a reprehensible act of incitement, aimed at imposing a new reality at Al-Aqsa Mosque/Haram al-Sharif compound and futile attempts to divide the site temporally and spatially. Additionally, Majali warned of the grave consequences of the continuation of these serious and escalating violations. To halt Israeli belligerence, he urged the international community to take a "firm" stance that compels Israel, as the occupying power, to cease its ongoing violations against Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem and all the provocative practices of extremist ministers. He noted thes Israeli steps represent a continuation of the extremist Israeli government's policy aimed at further escalating the dangerous situation in the occupied Palestinian territory. Majali noted the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, with its entire area of ??144 dunams, is a place of worship exclusively for Muslims. "Jordan-run Jerusalem Waqf and Al-Aqsa Mosque Affairs Department, affiliated with the Jordanian Ministry of Awqaf, Islamic Affairs and Holy Places, is the legal authority with exclusive jurisdiction to manage all affairs of Al-Aqsa Mosque/Haram al-Sharif and regulate entry to its yards," he pointed out. //Petra// AG
