31/ Minister: JD 200k Compensation Paid to 320 Farmers for Weather-Driven Agricultural Losses

Amman, May 14 (Petra) -- Minister of Agriculture Saeb Khraisat said on Thursday that around 320 farmers have been compensated with approximately JD 200,000 for losses caused by severe weather conditions that affected the Kingdom at the end of 2025 and the beginning of 2026.

In a statement, Khraisat said the Agricultural Risk Management Fund disbursed the compensation for damages resulting from heavy rainfall, flash floods, strong winds, and frost, which impacted both plant and animal production sectors.

He said the losses included fruit trees, vegetables, and field crops, in addition to livestock, bees, and fish, as well as damage to greenhouses across several governorates. Affected areas included Karak, Tafila, Irbid, Ma’an, Madaba, the Southern Ghor region, Deir Alla, South Shuna, Wadi al-Seer, Giza, Dhiban, Kufranja, and North Shuna.

Khraisat said field teams conducted damage assessments across the affected regions, adding that compensation was distributed in accordance with approved criteria under the Agricultural Risk Compensation System, ensuring fairness and transparency.

He added that the ministry continues to support farmers and strengthen the resilience of the agricultural sector through the Agricultural Risk Management Fund, which helps mitigate losses and sustain agricultural production. The system covers a range of natural hazards, including floods, storms, frost, heavy rain, hail, and agricultural pests.
