Amman, May 14 (Petra) – Assistant Secretary-General of the Ministry of Agriculture for Livestock, Misbah Tarawneh, said the ministry began preparations early for the Eid al-Adha season by developing a plan aimed at meeting citizens' meat needs and ensuring market stability in the coming period.

Tarawneh, in remarks to "Petra," said the number of available local sacrificial animals reached approximately half a million head, the same as last year, while the cost will be close to last year's price at JD5-5.5 per kilogram of overall weight.

Tarawneh said daily slaughter expected during Eid will reach 100,000-120,000 heads of sacrificial animals and potentially up to 150,000 at its highest level.

He noted that 250,000 head of livestock were imported from 21 approved sources, including Romania and Ukraine, adding that 22,000 calves were imported from Brazil, Colombia, Romania, and Australia.

This effort, he noted, was made to increase market supply, prevent any meat shortages, contribute to price stability, alleviate the burden on citizens, and meet the growing demand for meat and sacrificial animals.

Regarding import costs, Tarawneh stated their levels are linked to the country of origin, their fees, transportation expenses, and insurance charges imposed by that exporting nation.
