21/ Health Ministry Moves to Address Congestion, Service Delays at Prince Hamza Hospital
Amman, May 14 (Petra) -- Health Minister Ibrahim Bdour on Thursday ordered immediate measures at the Prince Hamza Hospital to reduce overcrowding and improve service delivery following a field visit to review operational challenges and patient flow management. The measures included redistributing specialist clinics to ensure full operation during official working hours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., while improving patient flow distribution to reduce morning congestion and optimize afternoon service capacity. He also directed the reinforcement of pharmacy and laboratory staffing to accelerate medication dispensing and laboratory testing procedures, alongside expediting the recruitment of pharmacists and other healthcare personnel to reduce waiting times and strengthen service responsiveness. The Ministry of Health will work to secure medications currently facing supply shortages to ensure continuity of treatment and maintain service standards, he said. During the visit, Bdour inspected congestion levels at the hospital’s clinics, pharmacy, and laboratory, met with patients and medical staff, and reviewed operational challenges. He also instructed officials to relocate the medication delivery pharmacy to a larger facility and increase staffing levels to accommodate rising demand for prescription services through the electronic application system. Addressing concerns raised by patients and employees over delays and service interruptions within the Hakeem electronic health system, Bdour said the issue is of a technical nature and confirmed that the ministry is coordinating with Hakeem administrators to implement rapid solutions. He stressed that improving the patient experience remains a top priority, underlining the need to eliminate procedural bottlenecks across all stages of healthcare delivery, from admission to treatment and diagnostic services. The directives fall within the Ministry of Health’s field-based monitoring approach and its ongoing efforts to respond to citizens’ feedback, in line with government policies led by Prime Minister Jafar Hassan to improve public services and enhance healthcare standards in ministry hospitals. //Petra// AJ
