  17/ 480,009 students currently enrolled in Jordan's higher education sector-Ministry 

Amman, May 14 (Petra) –Spokesperson for the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Muhannad Khatib, revealed comprehensive statistics on the state of the Kingdom's higher education sector for the 2025-2026 academic year.

Khatib also highlighting the disparity in numbers and capacity between Jordan's public and private educational institutions.

In remarks to "Petra" on Thursday, Khatib said the 10 public universities and 10 university colleges attract the "largest" number of students, totaling 287,320, representing 60% of the total student community in the Kingdom.

In contrast, he noted private institutions, which comprise 18 universities and 42 community colleges, accommodate 192,689 students, representing 40% of the total student population of 480,009.

Regarding academic programs, Khatib noted public universities and colleges offer 1,322 majors, compared to 899 specialties in private institutions.

The educational process also witnessed introduction of 94 new majors in the public sector and 88 in the private sector to meet the evolving needs of the labor market.

As for teaching staff, figures show public universities account for 60% of the total faculty members in the Kingdom, with 8,508 members, while private universities account for 40%, at 5,644 out of a total of 14,152 academic staffers.

Regarding international (non-Jordanian) students, data reveals dominance of private institutions in this area, as 65% of the total 36,239 international students are enrolled in private universities and colleges, while 19,171 foreigners, marking 35% of the overall figure, are enrolled in public institutions.

In total, 55,410 international students from 119 countries worldwide are currently studying in Jordan's higher education institutions, representing 11.5% of the total student population in the Kingdom.
