12/ Jordan Highlights Publishing Sector at Doha International Book Fair

Amman, May 14 (Petra) -- Jordan’s participation in the 35th edition of the Doha International Book Fair reflects the Kingdom’s strong cultural presence and the growing stature of its publishing sector, Director General of the National Library Department Firass Darabah said Thursday.

According to a National Library statement, Darabah said the fair provides an important platform for engagement with Arab and international intellectual and creative experiences, while helping to expand cultural cooperation and the exchange of expertise among publishing and cultural institutions.

He said Jordan’s participation reflects the advanced standing of the Kingdom’s publishing industry and its rich and diverse cultural output, noting that the exhibition provides a valuable opportunity to enhance cultural cooperation and exchange expertise among Arab institutions and publishing houses.

Darabah, who attended the official opening ceremony alongside Minister of Culture Mustafa Rawashdeh, said the National Library props up Jordanian books at Arab and international events as part of its institutional role in preserving national intellectual production and promoting awareness of knowledge, documentation, and cultural archiving.

The current edition of the Doha International Book Fair features 515 publishing houses from 37 countries, including around 50 Jordanian publishers. The event runs through May 23 under the slogan "From Engraving to Writing."
