5/ Jordan Eyes Historic World Cup Qualification Amid Rising Football Momentum

Amman, May 13 (Petra) -- The national football team is continuing preparations for the decisive stages of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers amid growing optimism fueled by the team’s historic Asian Cup campaign and rising international profile.

Head coach Jamal Sellami said the technical staff is working to maintain the team’s competitive momentum despite limited preparation periods between official matches.

In remarks published by FIFA, Sellami described time constraints as one of the biggest challenges facing national team coaching staffs during qualification campaigns.

He said Jordan is seeking to capitalize on the technical and psychological stability achieved following the national team’s historic run to the final of the 2023 AFC Asian Cup the first final appearance in Jordan’s history.

According to Sellami, the current phase is focused on expanding tactical options and preparing backup players across all positions to ensure squad depth throughout the qualification process, particularly in light of potential injuries and suspensions.

He added that the national team benefits from a combination of experienced and ambitious players, alongside a growing number of Jordanian professionals competing abroad, which has contributed positively to the squad’s technical development and overall performance.

Sellami also highlighted the role of fan support and increasing public interest in Jordanian football, saying the growing attention surrounding the national team provides players with additional motivation to pursue a first-ever qualification for the FIFA World Cup.

He stressed that competition within the qualifying group remains highly demanding and will require consistency and concentration throughout every stage of the campaign.

The coach added that Jordan’s recent football achievements have also contributed to increased sponsorship interest and higher market values for several players, reflecting broader growth in Jordan’s football sector at both sporting and commercial levels.
