25/ Minister: Modernization, an ongoing national scheme promoting political participation
Amman, May 13 (Petra) – Political modernization is an in-progress national scheme with a national vision to lay the foundations of a democratic approach toward a robust and sustainable political life that embodies the aspirations and hopes of Jordanians, Minister of Political and Parliamentary Affairs Abdul-Munim Al-Oudat said. Political modernization is linked to the principle of the rule of law, the cornerstone of stability and progress for nations, along with promoting the values of citizenship and the national interest, he told a dialogue session on political modernization and party work, organized by the Jordan Forum for Policy Dialogue Tuesday evening. "In a state where the rule of law holds supreme, a citizen feels secure and experiences justice and equal opportunity, where rights and freedoms are protected within a framework of order and accountability," he said. Al-Oudat highlighted youth participation as "real partners" in building the country's present and future and promoting a democratic, program-based party model towards a political culture based on pluralism, respect for differing opinions, and responsible competition. Head of the forum Hamid Batayneh told the gathering that the political modernization enterprise aims to build "a more mature and participatory political life" based on party programs, empower youth and women, and enhance the Lower House's legislative and oversight role, as well as promoting a culture of dialogue, pluralism, and respect for differing opinions. Batayneh underscored responsible national dialogue to enhance confidence in political and party life, highlighting civil society organizations' role in raising awareness on political participation and encouraging youth and women to engage in public work and decision-making. //Petra//SS
