34/ MP pledges broad consultation on new local administration law

Amman, May 11 (Petra) -- Head of the Administrative Committee in the Lower House Khalifa Al Dyyat said on Monday that parliament will handle the government’s newly approved local administration draft law with a high degree of national and legislative responsibility.

Al Dyyat stated that the committee's approach will be based on dialogue and openness, ensuring that various viewpoints are heard before the legislation is finalized. He emphasized that the goal is to produce a balanced, modern law that enhances administrative efficiency and strengthens the principles of decentralization, governance, and transparency.

The committee views the draft law as a pivotal piece of legislation that directly impacts local governance and the quality of services provided to citizens. Its effects are expected to reach municipalities, governorate councils, and the overall level of development across the kingdom.

To ensure the law meets current needs, Al Dyyat announced that the committee plans to hold extensive consultative meetings across governorates. These sessions will include citizens, economic and social leaders, civil society organizations, and experts in municipal work. The objective is to identify existing challenges and gather feedback on the practical application of the proposed rules.

Al Dyyat underscored the committee's commitment to carefully reviewing all proposed amendments to achieve a balance between expanding the powers of local authorities and strengthening oversight and accountability. Effective resource management remains a priority to ensure the sustainability of municipal and council operations.

"We place the interests of the nation and the citizen above all considerations," Al Dyyat said. He added that the committee will work in full coordination with official and relevant bodies to reach a legislative framework that supports local development and aligns with the kingdom’s administrative, political, and economic modernization goals.
