48/ Lower House Secretary General emphasizes AI integration in parliamentary work

Amman, May 6 (Petra) -- Secretary General of the Lower House of Parliament, Awwad Al-Ghuwairi, emphasized on Wednesday the importance of utilizing information technology and artificial intelligence to advance institutional parliamentary work. He noted Jordan's commitment to active engagement in regional and international parliamentary efforts and the strengthening of cooperation with brotherly and friendly parliaments.

Al-Ghuwairi explained that the Lower House has made significant strides in recent years toward modernizing parliamentary operations, in line with the vision of His Majesty King Abdullah II and His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, which focuses on administrative modernization and digital transformation.

These remarks were made during his participation in the Fifth Conference of Secretaries General, held alongside the launch of the Association of Secretaries General of Mediterranean Parliaments. Al-Ghuwairi stated that the conference reflects the depth of partnership among parliaments in the face of rapid global challenges and marks a vital step toward enhancing administrative and technical coordination and the exchange of expertise.

The Secretary General pointed out that the conference theme transforming institutional knowledge into "shared intelligence" supported by AI reflects a shift in how knowledge functions within parliamentary institutions. He stressed that the challenge is no longer merely collecting data but effectively analyzing and utilizing it to support legislative and oversight functions.

He further elaborated that AI contributes to improving the quality of legislation by analyzing data, linking legal texts, and identifying relevant precedents. These technologies also play a crucial role in supporting parliamentary committees, accelerating legal research, and enhancing the accuracy of studies, thereby increasing the efficiency of decision-making. Al-Ghuwairi concluded by stressing the importance of capacity building within parliamentary administrations, noting that investing in institutional knowledge is the path toward more efficient and effective parliaments that uphold democracy and the rule of law.
