25/ Amman Chamber of Industry urges expedited shift towards 'more diversified' exports
Amman, May 6 (Petra) – The General Assembly of Amman Chamber of Industry (ACI) approved the financial and administrative reports for 2025. Talking at the annual general meeting held on Wednesday, ACI Chairman, Fathi Jagbir, noted the Board of Directors' commitment to involving the General Assembly in all decisions and activities related to the Kingdom's industrial sector. Jagbir, who chaired the session, said the Kingdom's industrial sector has proven high resilience to address challenges. Despite the ongoing pressures related to production costs and the volatility of global markets, he noted Jordanian industry has managed to maintain its "presence in international markets and enhance its contribution to the national economy." Jagbir called for accelerating the shift towards a "more diversified and higher value-added" export basket, particularly in advanced manufacturing and knowledge-based and technology-driven sectors. He stated this process requires action to address a range of structural challenges facing the industrial sector, primarily energy, transportation, and financing costs and develop trade policies that enhance fair competition in the local market and support capacity of Jordanian products to access foreign markets. He urged accelerated shift towards "more targeted" industrial policies that focus on developing high value-added industrial sectors and strengthening integration between industry, scientific research, and innovation, which would build "a more diversified and competitive production base." On future plans, he said the chamber is working to develop its services and programs to keep pace with rapid economic and technological transformations and enhance industrialists' ability to adapt to requirements of the new global economy, mainly in the areas of digital transformation, the green economy, and global value chains. Meanwhile, attendees discussed the exhibition project, which the chamber plans to implement next year and submission of a proposal for the ACI to organize an investment conference for Jordanian expatriates abroad. //Petra// AG
