55/ Local Administration Minister Inspects Madaba Municipality Ahead of Severe Weather
Amman, March 25 (Petra) -- Minister of Local Administration Walid Masri inspected Madaba Municipality on Wednesday evening, reviewing the joint operations room and field plans prepared to respond to the low-pressure weather system affecting the kingdom. During the visit, Masri met with the Municipality Committee Chairman, Haitham Al-Jwainat, Head of the Joint Services Council, Imad Asfour, Director of Municipal Affairs, Rawida Al-Habahbeh, and Director of Public Works, Youssef Sultan, to assess the readiness of personnel and equipment assigned to handle potential emergencies resulting from the expected rainfall. The minister stressed, during the meeting at the municipality’s main operations room, the critical importance of coordinated official efforts and continuous direct coordination with administrative governors, public works teams, and civil defense. Masri emphasized that emergency operations rooms must remain on high alert around the clock, focusing on immediate response to reports to ensure citizen safety and protect public and private property from potential damage. Al-Jwainat said that technical teams, in cooperation with the Joint Services Council and the Directorate of Municipal Affairs, have completed field inspections of valleys, watercourses, and drainage channels. He noted that all necessary precautions have been taken in "hotspot" areas identified during previous weather events to prevent water accumulation or closures. The visit comes as Jordan experiences a low-pressure system expected to continue until Friday morning. The Ministry of Local Administration had previously instructed all municipalities and services councils to increase readiness and reinforce field preparations to safeguard lives and property during these exceptional weather conditions. //Petra// AF
