23/ Aqaba ports operate at 'full' capacity amid increased shipping traffic-ASEZA
Aqaba, March 25 (Petra) -- Chairman of Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA), Shadi Majali, Wednesday said operations at Aqaba ports are running "efficiently, as vessel traffic is continuing uninterrupted and recording a noticeable increase." In remarks to "Petra," he said the efforts align with Royal directives and are closely followed by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, reinforcing port readiness and ensuring sustained high-efficiency operations. Majali said all nine ports in Aqaba are operating at "full capacity," with increased vessel dockings and cargo handling volumes, noting that additional capacity of up to 30 percent is available, compared with usual levels. The Cabinet has approved exemptions on shipments from any additional fees beyond shipping costs, in a move aimed at supporting trade activity and facilitating the smooth flow of goods. Since the start of the month, 199 vessels have docked in Aqaba, including 86 passenger ships, with 57 more expected next week. Cargo handling volumes reached about 1.6 million tonnes, al well as the handling of 55,700 TEUs and 5,400 vehicles for re-export, while around 25,000 passengers also arrived during the period. Majali added that the gas port received eight vessels carrying around 345,000 tonnes of natural gas and liquefied gas, with an additional 38,000 tonnes of fuel expected to arrive soon. //Petra// NQ
