Amman, March 24 (Petra) – The Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) declared a state of maximum emergency effective Wednesday morning in preparation for a weather depression forecast to impact the Kingdom.

In a statement issued Tuesday, GAM said that field teams are fully prepared to respond to reports received through the Tla'a Al Ali Emergency Operations Room, urging Jordanians to report any incidents via the unified call centre at 102 or 117180.

GAM called on the public to exercise caution, avoid valleys and low-lying areas and refrain from littering, warning that waste can block stormwater drainage systems.

It called for ensuring that submersible pumps in basements and below-street-level shops are functioning properly. Merchants were advised to take precautionary measures when storing goods in warehouses and basements.

Contractors and construction site owners were urged to secure building materials to prevent them from being swept away, which could lead to blocked drainage systems.
