7/ Amman joins Milan Urban Food Policy Pactsteering committee for 2026–2028 term

Amman, March 17 (Petra) -- Amman has officially joined the fifth steering committee of the Milan Urban Food Policy Pact (MUFPP) partnership program for the 2026–2028 term, following its election by signatory cities.

The selection came through a voting process involving 330 cities worldwide. A total of 29 cities competed for membership, with 13 selected based on geographic representation across regions.

Amman Mayor, Yousef Shawarbeh, will represent the city on the committee, underscoring Amman’s growing role in urban and development issues, particularly in sustainable food policy. Amman secured the highest number of votes in the Eurasia and Southwest Asia region, alongside Istanbul.

The steering committee will oversee the initiative’s strategic direction over the next two years, with support from the secretariat in Milan. Its responsibilities include approving the work program, providing advisory input, setting criteria for selecting host cities for the Global Forum on Urban Food Policies, and encouraging cities to apply for pact awards.

Launched in 2015, the Milan Urban Food Policy Pact is an international agreement bringing together hundreds of cities to promote sustainable urban food systems and facilitate the exchange of expertise.
