Amman, March 17 (Petra) -- Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs Ayman Safadi received on Tuesday the Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini.

Safadi emphasized the significant humanitarian role UNRWA plays in Gaza, which continues to face a humanitarian disaster due to the destruction caused by Israeli aggression, as well as Israel’s ongoing restrictions on the entry of sufficient and sustainable aid into the territory.

He also stressed the importance of ensuring UNRWA’s continued operation, noting that the agency provides indispensable services to Palestinian refugees in its five areas of operation, and called for an end to Israel’s systematic campaign to restrict the agency, impose unlawful limitations, and curtail its vital role in the occupied Palestinian territories.

Safadi commended Lazzarini’s extensive efforts during his tenure as UNRWA Commissioner-General, which concludes on June 30, and reaffirmed Jordan’s appreciation for his humanitarian work in supporting Palestinian refugees and advancing their causes.
