24/ UN Security Council convenes over Afghanistan

New York, March 10 (Petra) – The UN Security Council held a session on Tuesday to review the situation in Afghanistan, receiving a briefing from Georgette Gagnon, Acting Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA).

Gagnon said that the conflict between Afghanistan and Pakistan has caused significant human and economic losses. She added that recent military escalations in the Middle East are affecting Afghanistan's economic stability.

She added that the UN political mission is working to establish a political path forward, particularly through the Doha process, which seeks to balance realism and patience while upholding the core principles of the United Nations.
