44/ Political Parties: Arabization of Army Command Cemented Jordan’s Sovereignty
Amman, March 1 (Petra) – The National Charter Party and the Jordanian Qudwa Party said on Sunday that the decision to Arabize the command of the Jordan Armed Forces – Arab Army marked a pivotal national milestone in the history of the modern Jordanian state and consolidated its sovereignty and independent national decision-making. In a statement, the National Charter Party said the historic decision taken on March 1, 1956, by the late King Hussein bin Talal constituted a defining moment in Jordan’s state-building process, entrenching sovereignty and independence of national will. The party said the move reflected the free national will and embodied the Hashemite leadership’s confidence in Jordanians and their ability to assume responsibility and safeguard the state’s achievements. It noted the lasting impact of the decision in strengthening the standing of the armed forces and consolidating their professional doctrine based on belonging, loyalty, and professionalism. It affirmed that the Arab Army will remain the nation’s steadfast shield and protector of its path and leadership under His Majesty King Abdullah II, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, stressing the continued commitment of the military to fulfilling its national and humanitarian duties with efficiency and competence. The party also expressed appreciation for the sacrifices of the armed forces and security agencies, commending their dedication and loyalty in serving Jordan and its people and drawing from the anniversary of Arabization meanings of dignity, pride and self-reliance. For its part, the Jordanian Qudwa Party congratulated His Majesty King Abdullah II on the occasion, describing it as a landmark national anniversary that embodies Jordan’s sovereignty and the dignity of its people. Party Secretary-General Iyad Al-Najjar said the Arabization decision taken by the late King Hussein entrenched national sovereignty and made the armed forces a symbol of loyalty, discipline and sacrifice, noting that army martyrs had written honorable chapters in defending the homeland and protecting its resources. He added that today, under His Majesty King Abdullah II’s leadership, the military institution continues its path toward further professionalism and modernization, drawing on a firm Hashemite legacy and the determination of loyal men who carry the nation’s banner with steadfast doctrine and unwavering faith.
