38/ Lawmakers: Arabization of Army Command a Turning Point in Consolidating Jordan’s Sovereignty
Amman, March 1 (Petra) - Head of the Lower House Public Services and Transportation Committee MP Ayman Al Badadweh said the anniversary of the Arabization of the command of the Jordan Armed Forces – Arab Army represents a pivotal national milestone in the history of the modern Jordanian state, given the profound implications of the decision in consolidating national sovereignty and strengthening the independence of Jordan’s decision-making. Al Badadweh said the courageous decision taken by the late King Hussein bin Talal to Arabize the command of the Arab Army marked a historic turning point that underscored the confidence of the Hashemite leadership in the capabilities of Jordanians, entrenching a policy of relying on national competencies to protect the Kingdom and safeguard its achievements. He added that the step reinforced the status of the Arab Army as a professional national force carrying a message of honor and belonging, contributing to consolidating the pillars of the state and strengthening its institutions on the foundations of professionalism, discipline and loyalty. Al Badadweh noted that this cherished national occasion offers an opportunity to recall the sacrifices of the army’s personnel, who have long served as the nation’s shield, stressing that Jordan will remain strong under its Hashemite leadership, its valiant army, and its loyal people. For his part, MP Awni Al-Zoubi said the anniversary of the Arabization of the Army Command constitutes a defining moment in Jordan’s history and embodies the independent sovereign decision that enhanced the Kingdom’s standing and affirmed its Arab national role. He noted that the Arabization decision taken in 1956 by King Hussein reflected the free national will and consolidated the doctrine of the Arab Army based on protecting the homeland, safeguarding its dignity and defending Arab causes. Al-Zoubi added that the Jordan Armed Forces – Arab Army, under its Hashemite leadership, has consistently remained the nation’s shield, performing its duties with efficiency and competence, drawing guidance from the directives of King Abdullah II, who continues the process of development and modernization and strengthening the army’s capabilities in line with regional and international developments.
